Description
Michigan has the crown jewels of Midwestern golf.
Michigan may be among the undiscovered jewels of the golf world with more than 1,000 courses, many private or semi-private. Almost every city here seems to have a course, with country club living available in and near Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Gaylord, Flint and Grand Blanc.
Fine courses here can compete with golf at some of the nation’s trendiest resorts. This is a great place to hit the fairways from May to October, when temperatures in Sunbelt states soar. In Northern Michigan, the thermometer rarely hits 90; sunlight – and golf – can last past 9 p.m.
Live where you play — country clubs and private golf communities are everywhere
You’ve probably heard about the Michigan golf resorts like Treetops and Shanty Creek. You know about the high prestige private country clubs like Oakland Hills, that has regularly hosted U.S. Opens and PGA Championships. You may have read in Golf Digest about the great golf available at the Villages at Tullymore, a community near Grand Rapids.
In the north, consider Bay Harbor Country Club on Lake Michigan’s Little Traverse Bay; guard-gated LochenHeath near Traverse City; and Forest Dunes in Roscommon near the Huron National Forest.
