Description
Iowa Golfers Love Country Club Living.
Iowans love golf; maybe that’s why they have about 400 courses, more than many other states considered to be golfing hot spots. Everything grows better in Iowa, including the lush green grass you’ll find on fairways and greens of the many outstanding country clubs in this state.
Every year, the PGA Champions Tour holds a tournament at the Glen Oaks Country Club, a West Des Moines private club with a famous Tom Fazio course. And don’t forget that Zach Johnson, a recent Masters champion, learned to play the game at a country club in his hometown, Cedar Rapids.
Many of Iowa’s country clubs are listed among Golf Digest’s top places to play in the state, including the Des Moines Golf & Country Club with two Pete Dye courses.

Golf communities are everywhere in Iowa. Among those to explore is the residential area at Glen Oaks as well as Spirit Hollow in Burlington, the Tournament Club in Polk City with an Arnold Palmer course, and the Harvester Golf Club in Rhodes with a Keith Foster layout ranked among the Top 100 Modern Courses in America by Golf Digest.
