Description
Wide-Open Spaces Make for Great Kansas Golf.
Rolling hills carpeted with prairie grass and wildflowers and an endless sky overhead make Kansas a stunning place to play golf. That’s probably why this state has attracted Tom Weiskopf, Jay Morrish, Tom Fazio and Nick Faldo to lay out award-winning courses at country clubs here.
Kansas has two private clubs regularly ranked among America’s 100 Greatest Courses by Golf Digest. One, Prairie Dunes in Hutchinson, is from among the state’s great ranks of vintage membership clubs. The other is Flint Hills National in Andover with a Fazio layout.
Live where you play — golf communities are everywhere in this state
Golf communities, many of them gated, offer players a chance to enjoy a sports-oriented lifestyle full-time. Among the finest: Tallgrass Country Club in Wichita, Shadow Glen in Olathe, Cottonwood Hills in Hutchinson, Falcon Ridge in Lenexa, Hallbrook Country Club in Leawood and Sand Creek Station in Newton.
And there’s also Grand Mère, a community at Colbert Hills, in the Flint Hills near Manhattan. Colbert Hills was co-designed by former PGA Tour player Jim Colbert, an alum of Kansas State, which manages the club.
